Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth it? Will they love it? What if it rains?

We’ve heard it all - and we’ve been doing this for nine years. Here’s everything you need to know before booking your WILDHOOD adventure.

First Things First

  • WILDHOOD is an award-winning, all-inclusive family festival in Scotland for children aged 0–12 and the grown-ups who love them.

It’s three days of theatre, music, den building, wild play, storytelling, crafting, dressing up, dancing and wandering through magical set-designed worlds - all in the grounds of Tullibole Castle.

    No hidden extras.
    No endless add-ons.
Just childhood as it should be.

This is the best way to start summer.

  • Yes!

All core festival activities, workshops and performances are included in your ticket price.

    Once you’re in, you’re in.

A small number of our highest-demand activities also offer optional ADD-ventures pre-bookable slots (see below) but booking is never required to take part.

  • We know that’s what you’re really asking.

    WILDHOOD isn’t a summer-day filler. It’s not a few bouncy castles in a field.

It’s three days of immersive, designed, programmed experiences created specifically for families. Professional artists. Theatre makers. Musicians. Carefully curated workshops. Thoughtful set design.

Families return year after year. Children grow up here. Traditions are made here.

If you’re looking for something you’ll talk about for years - this is that.

  • We understand that question.

    When you compare WILDHOOD to:

    • A family day at a theme park

    • Theatre tickets for four

    • A weekend away

    • Multiple summer activity bookings

…it becomes clear how much is included.

Because everything is part of your ticket, most families find they actually spend less across the weekend than they would doing separate activities.

We focus on quality over volume. You’re not paying for hype. You’re investing in an experience.

Everything is included. No upselling once you arrive.

  • Yes. Very.

    • This is our 9th year.

    • 2,500 attendees annually.

    • Produced by Scene Scotland (established 2004).

    • Multiple award recognition including Small Festival awards and national industry nominations.

    • Trusted partnerships and returning artists year after year.

We don’t do flash-in-the-pan events. We build communities.

Will My Kids Actually Like It?

  • Primarily 0–12.

Toddlers can potter and explore safely. Primary-aged children thrive. Older siblings often love the freedom.

  • Perfect.

WILDHOOD isn’t high-pressure or overstimulating. There are calm corners, craft tents, story spaces, nature areas. Children can dip in and out.

They don’t need to perform. They just need to arrive.

  • We prioritise accessibility and inclusivity in programming and site design. Quiet areas, accessible facilities, thoughtful scheduling.

    Every child deserves a WILDHOOD.

Will I Enjoy It As A Parent?

  • Short answer: yes.

WILDHOOD is built for families - not just children.

    You’ll:

    • Watch brilliant performances.

    • Eat good food.

    • Meet other parents.

    • Sit down occasionally while your children disappear into imaginative worlds.

It’s often described as “Glastonbury for kids” - but with actual toilets and bedtime.

  • No.

WILDHOOD is programmed for families to experience together. The theatre is high quality. The music isn’t nursery rhymes on loop. The workshops are artist-led. The food is properly curated.

    Children roam. Adults breathe.

  • We think we’re really unique for lots of reasons, including:

    • All-inclusive ticket

    • Carefully curated programming

    • Thoughtful set design

    • Screen-free ethos

    • 9 years established

    • Independent production

  • You don’t have to promise lifelong bonds - just signal warmth.

Something shifts when families gather with the same intention. Children connect quickly. Parents chat over coffee. Many families return each year and reconnect with familiar faces.

    Traditions begin here.

Scotland. Outdoors. Weather.

  • We plan for Scotland.

There are covered areas, tented spaces and indoor programming elements. Activities continue rain or shine.

Bring wellies. Bring layers. Embrace it.

Some of the best memories are slightly muddy ones.

Camping & Staying Over

  • No - but many families love it.

Camping turns WILDHOOD into a shared adventure. Kids make campsite friends. Parents sit out after bedtime. You don’t have to drive home.

If camping isn’t your thing, there are off-site accommodation options nearby.

  • In our WILDHOOD Camping Village, which includes:

    • General camping

    • Quiet camping

    • Campervan / caravan area

    • Glamping

From 9am Saturday until 12 noon Sunday we operate a no-car campsite.

Arrive before 9am Saturday and you can drive to your pitch to unload. After that, parking is nearby and wheelbarrows and staff are available to help.

  • Camping opens from 4pm on Friday 5th June 2026.

  • It’s family camping.

Not rowdy. Not late-night party chaos. Not a student field.

It’s gentle. Lantern-lit. Children on scooters. Parents with blankets and wine glasses.

  • We prioritise accessibility and inclusivity in programming and site design. Quiet areas, accessible facilities, thoughtful scheduling.

    Every child deserves a WILDHOOD.

(See Inclusive Play tab at the top)

  • We can’t reserve pitches. The best way to camp together is to arrive together.

  • This is important.

    After 7pm the energy shifts.

Children wind down. Campfires glow. There’s live music, gentle performances, sometimes DJ sets for dancing together - families, not clubs.

Parents often say the evenings are their favourite part.

You might love it more than your children.

  • The campervan area is within the same campsite. Arriving together and early gives you the best chance of pitching nearby, but this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Yes - in the campsite and near the WILDHOOD Kitchen.

  • Yes - small BBQs and camping stoves are permitted. No disposable BBQs please.

Practical Stuff

  • Yes - they do.

While babies under 3 are free, we still require a ticket so we always know exactly how many people are onsite for safety and capacity reasons.

    Every soul counts at WILDHOOD.

  • There’s a lot programmed specifically for this age group - from gentle creative activities to dedicated spaces and amenities.

We charge a small contribution to help support this programming while keeping it accessible for families.

  • No.

All core activities operate on a turn-up-and-join basis. You’re free to explore and follow what feels right - no complicated booking systems.

A small number of high-demand activities offer optional ADD-ventures booking slots (see below), but booking is never required.

  • ADD-ventures are optional £5 pre-bookable slots available for a small number of our most popular activities, such as tree climbing, stone carving, archery and axe throwing.

Only half of the available spaces for these activities are offered as ADD-ventures bookings. The remaining spaces operate as normal on a first-come, turn-up basis throughout the weekend.

ADD-ventures allow families to secure a guaranteed slot while raising money for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland), with all profits donated.

Booking is entirely optional. All activities remain included within your ticket.

  • Day ticket access is from 10am–6pm.

  • All tickets are non-refundable.

However, you’re welcome to pass your tickets on to friends or family if your plans change.

  • At the ticket desk, located next to the WILDHOOD Kitchen when you arrive.

  • Yes - we’ll publish the site map on the website closer to the festival date.

  • Don’t worry.

If you booked via Skiddle, please contact custcare@skiddle.com and they’ll resend your ticket confirmation.

  • The full timetable is usually released around four weeks before the festival.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our social media for line-up announcements and performer spotlights - or sign up to our newsletter for monthly updates in the run-up to the event.

  • A curated mix of food traders, coffee, treats and proper meals. Vegetarian and vegan options available. All vendors accept car payments.

You can bring food too. You can relax.

  • If you’re camping, you’re welcome to bring alcohol for consumption within the campsite area.

There are also two bars onsite serving drinks throughout the weekend.

As always, we ask everyone to drink responsibly and help us maintain the gentle, family-focused atmosphere WILDHOOD is known for.

  • On-site parking is available (and included). Full travel info sent before the event.

  • With 22 peacocks in residence, unfortunately not. Sorry.

  • Yes - re-entry is permitted.

  • Yes - phone charging is available in the WILDHOOD Hub.
